Top of 2000 For Annalara White Dorpers

Top Of $2,000 For Annalara White Dorpers

AUCTIONSPLUS bidders couldn’t compete with producers on site at the 7th annual on-property ram and ewe sale held by Annalara White Dorpers on Wednesday, September 5.

Stud principal Steve Cresswell, Dubbo, sold 65 out of 84 rams to a top of $2,000 and average of $988, and 14 from 21 ewes, averaging $336.

Mr. Cresswell said it was a result he was very happy with.

“I think the prices I got at this sale reflected the way the lamb market is at the moment, but I was quite happy with the results and there weren’t as many passed-in lots this year as last year, which was great,” he said.

“It was surprising none of the bidders on AuctionsPlus were able to secure any sheep, usually they go pretty well, but the rams and ewes all went to good return clients of ours who had come back to support us again this year.”

A volume buyer at last year’s sale, Ben Laird, Mount View Pastoral Company, Hillston, took home the top-priced ram at $2,000 among a draft of 32 rams he bought at the sale, which will help cover the 10,000 ewes in the Mount View enterprise.

The top-priced ram, which was almost 12 months at the time of the sale had Australian Sheep Breeding Values (ASBVs) including a weaning weight of +5.7 and post-weaning weight of +9.9, as well as an $Index of 178.9.

“I’ve only missed out on maybe one or two Annalara ram sales, and I don’t really use any other stud bloodlines,” Mr. Laird said.

“I thought the top-priced ram in particular was a very good indexing, early-maturing sire.”

Mr Laird averaged $984 for the 32 rams he purchased, the size of the draft up by 10 head from the sale last year where he bought 22 rams.

G3 Partnership, Forbes, were first-time buyers at the Annalara sale but took home 12 rams at a top of $1,600 and averaging $833.

Condobolin buyers Staniforth and Colless bought eight rams at an average of $925 and topping at $1,800.

Return buyer Rodney Rose, Coolabah, was once again keen to secure Annalara ewes, buying eight to a top of $500 and averaging $300.

Mr Rose also bought two rams for $1,200 and $1,300 each.

Guest vendors Tattykeel White Dorpers, Oberon, sold 14 out of 20 rams, including a son of well-known sire Loftus for $3,000, to average $936.

The sale was conducted by Landmark Dubbo, with John Settree, Dubbo, and Joel Fleming, Tamworth, taking bids.
